Bismark
The Bismarck.

Pride and joy of Nazi Germany. (Bismarck and
Tirpitz)

A legendary ship that sank the famous HMS Hood, and
the most powerful German arship ever built. A
crew topping 2000 men, full displacement just
past 50,000 tons, and four paired 15 inch guns
laid out a flexible and potent arship,
potentially a match for just about any other
warship in the North Sea. Unfortunately, in
spite of good German optics and impressive
statistics, the Bismark ended up getting
toasted. Poorly supported by a relatively weak
German navy, it also suffered from poor radar,
bad fire control, and poor deck protection from
long ranged fire. The Bismarck was designed
with an eye towards the Baltic battles of WWI,
and would have done very well in that
situation.

Career Link Du Jour Interesting article from an usual source, Processor - a magazine and website for "Products, News & Information Data Centers You Can Trust," on interviewing and what sort of candidates to pick. Attitude & Aptitude: Soft Skills In The IT Hiring Process discusses the search for soft skills versus hard skills. In particular, I like this paragraph on interviewing --

"Markham also suggests you stay away from some of the old saws of interviewing. Don’t ask your candidate what color he’d be if he were a color or what fruit he would be if he were a fruit. (These are, after all, insipid questions.) Instead, search for questions that have true relevance to your organization and test the real skills that your recruit will need to survive there."
