Hey all, since I'm here in Michigan for 3-4 months before the family comes out, am getting back into some of my old hobbies. We have a local Michaels like store, Hobby Lobby, and this weekend they were having (may still have) a sale on plastic models, 50% off!

I picked up a Revell 1/72nd X-35B Joint Strike Fighter model in 1/72. The model may be out of manufacture since I can't find it on their own site, but several other sites, for example Model Master Online show a 1/144 scale model and new for 2004 a planned 1/48 scale model. The model itself is somewhat of an odd-ball design as the X-35B or now the F-35 STOVL (Short Take-Off Vertical Landing) variant, can be built with the vents opened or closed. (These vents determine whether the lift fan is being used or not.) However, the rear exhaust nozzle, which pivots 90 degrees downward in VTOL mode, is only provided in the "down" mode. So I guess I will build it with all the vents open, else it looks odd.

Also working on a HobbyCraft 1/35th M1A Abrams which is actually a re-packaged Trumpeter kit but was only $10. Still haven't gotten around to painting anything. Would require more gear than I want to have in the apartment (and potential messes etc... ). So later, when settled, I may re-build these models and actually paint them.
